Oil Burner Technician Training OBT 3
The instructor, Gordon Pettit has 20 years of experience in installing and servicing HVAC equipment and 8 years of experience in teaching HVAC courses at Georgian College in Owen Sound. He hold a multi-certificate in OBT 1, G2 LP and a certificate of qualification as a Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic IP. The first course, "OBT 3" is a 180 hour entry level program with a final exam. Upon successful completion the graduate will be issues a license by TSSA valid in Ontario for the servicing and installing of oil burning equipment depending on general and/or direct supervision of a licensed OBT 2 technician. No field experience is required. Every student is expected to have work clothing, boots, gloves, safety glasses, not paper, pens/pencils and highlighting markers. All specialty tools and all materials will be provided but students are expected to bring basic tools, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc. The course content includes: safety, tools, fasteners, math, laws, fuel oil properties, combustion theory, efficiency, piping and tubing, fuel oil storage and delivery, burners and nozzles, controls, appliances, draft, electricity, technical drawings and maintenance.
